Imperial War Museum Duxford

This former Royal Air Force fighter airfield saw action during the Battle of Britain & is steeped in history. Today Duxford is Europe's premier aviation museum & contains an outstanding collection of over 180 historic aircraft from biplanes and Spitfires to Concorde. Not to be missed is the American Air Museum which houses the largest collection of American combat aircraft outside the United States. Visitors will be amazed to see many of the aircraft suspended from the ceiling as if in flight. Duxford is best known for its aircraft collection but the Land Warfare Exhibition Hall houses 1 of the finest collections of tanks, military vehicles & artillery pieces in the country displayed in authentic, walk-through battlefield scenes. Many rare aircraft, including Spitfires and Hurricanes fly regularly here and during the summer months they participate in Duxford's world famous air displays. In this, the 60th Anniversary Year of the Battle of Britain, the airshow programme is particularly exciting.
